Burbs Bistro and Bar

I hear their dishes are the most clean dishes around town!!

Sat.March 26th.we were a party of 4 arriving at 715pm We were promptly acknowledged and seated. Restaurant was very busy. Our server(male)never introduced himself but was attentive at first. An annoying practice by our server was that he dropped off ordered items and promptly turned and walked away with out waiting to see if we wanted anything else at that moment. He removed finished dishes promptly but neglected to take away the empty bread basket, in fact it was still intrusive on the table when we left at 945 pm after coffee and dessert. The meals First off they ran out of Ribs, appetizers were forever coming, server apologized for the delay, bacon wrapped scallops were excellent, Ravioli appetizers pastry was more like a fine breaded crabcake, bland. We were so hungry by the time the entree's arrived that the appetzers didn't seem to really matter. The sirloin steaks were excellent, large meat portions,cooked as ordered. The chicken with pasta was under cooked(chicken). The server offered cheese for the pasta and had to be reminded twice before it arrived at the table and was abruptly dropped off. The server took the wine carafe and poured the remaining wine into one glass without asking the lady if she wanted more. Our two ladies were sharing the carafe, she did not want all the wine and before she could object it was poured out into her glass, again this was curt, quick pour and dash manouver. The desserts were excellent in presentation and taste and portions were generous. The atmosphere was noisy and intrusive for the 1st hour, and quieted down by the 3rd hour.
We will visit again, on a quieter evening. Two and half hours serving time I hope is not normal. Price 7/10 Service 5/10 Food quality 8/10

Our first experience with Burbs Bistro and Bar was an excellent one. The food is fantastic, both appetizers and entrees. Wine selection is not special, but definitely adequate and enjoyable. The decor and ambiance is lovely, servers and support staff were all professional, knowledgeable and pleasant. We will be returning, to this lovely suburban well kept secret.

We went to the Burbs on Friday night. We had a party of 16. Our waiter was rude, slow. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. For the prices they charge, I would expect a lot more than this.

I do not think one of the 16 will return.

We had dinner at The Burbs just this week and loved it. Our hostess was extremely attentive and knowledgeable on menu items. Our dinner was nothing short of delicious and hot. It was just the right amout of food. 'Home made' are familiar words to The Burbs, right down to three choices of dinner rolls. We enjoyed a bottle of very rare Wollshed Shiraz, not available in LCBO. Kevin came out to meet us as it was our first time there. We know his great creations from Hot Rocks and he's getting even better. So nice that we didn't have to drive into TO for such an exquisite meal!!

The review in the newspaper brought me to the restaurant, and I left impressed. I did not think I could find a place outside of Toronto with the same quality of food. We want to come back and try your brunch on Sunday.

Kevin is a great chef. I've been enjoying his cooking since he was at Hot Rocks in Whitby. However, something is missing from his new place. The wait staff is pleasant but very slow even off peak times and not as attentive as they should be, given the relatively small space. When 'Burbs' first opened this was not the case. Kevin's recent additions to his staff may have been poor choices as they don't seem to understand the 'service' aspect needed for a restaurant of this type (readprice-point). On my last visit the staff's overall attitude was less than accomidating, my companions made comments to the same feeling. Training is needed to raise the bar here.

The prices are a little steep for the area, though the menu is balanced well and contains some really great(and unique) dishes. A change in servers would take my rating from fair to very good.

I suspect the negative reviews are from other Pickering Restaurant owners.
This place outdoes every other Pickering restaurant. Reasonable enough for more than just special occasions.

The cooking class was an excellent way to spend the evening. Chef Kevin not only cooks outstanding food, but makes it look so easy! I can not wait for your next class!

Quite a hidden gem you have! Discovered you while grocery shopping, came for dinner last night. Without a doubt, one of the best places in Durham.

Burbs is the best thing that has happened to Durham!! I was there Saturday night with a group of my girlfriends. Both the service and the atmosphere was fantastic. I had the Heirloom Tomato Salad to start, and the Shrimp & Scallop Risotto as my main course. Everyone at the table loved the food. My compliments to the kitchen, our dinner was outstanding! I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something above and beyond the normal commerical places that offer the same thing over and over.

Sounds (and looks like) one person has nothing better to do with there time than complain. Nothing would ever satisfiy them. Our family are regulars of Burbs because of the outstanding service we have always received and the food is remarkable. Finally a restaurant that believes Durham deserves quality fine dining.

not worth the money. Food was average at best. The host is rude and the service was lacking. An arrogant establishment for a place that doesn't even deserve to be.

If you're looking for higher end cuisine, don't waste your time with this place. The food is average, as is the service. The gnocchi was overcooked and the lobster dumplings were nothing special. Will not be back.

Too much attitude, and not enough substance. The top restaurants in Toronto and the GTA always treat customers with courtesy and respect. Not the case with Burbs - and the food isn't even that good!

WOW! First class disappointment all the way!

This restaurant was absolutely no good. We had a party of six, and they did not attend to us with any grace. The food was ok, but it could have been much better. Nothing new here, and the prices aren't even that reasonable. We will not be coming back.

Not pleased at all. Service was rude and unattentive. Food was unexciting and unexceptional. Definitely will not go back. Better off somewhere else.

Horrible. The service from the host was appalling. He wouldn't accomodate our simple request to not be seated by the door. It was 615pm and the place was virtually empty!!!! He was being so rude that it was sickening. My family and I are nice people, we respect everyone, and only ever ask for the same from others. We were very disapointed and ended up leaving without eating. There are too many good restaurants in the GTA to have to take that kind of abuse. Some people tend to forget who the customers are!

Finally, Pickering has a place where we can go to enjoy a meal for grown ups. Not a chicken finger, french fry or ice cream with sprinkles in sight. After 15 years of living here we welcome Burbs Bistro with open arms.

It is great to see a city-quality restaurant in Pickering. One of our favourites!

I think it is a great place to go the people are nice and the food speaks for it's self I can not see why people would not like it.

A big disappointment. Although the wait staff was very pleasant, the serivce was slow and the food below standard. We will not return.
